A suitcase of needs sometimes varies. I experienced a particular suitcase during a meeting I led at a shelter for homeless men. There was coffee, cookies, there was prayer, singing, but there was also a suitcase. I had sewn hearts in this suitcase with a card with a prayer and a picture of Our Lady and a quote from Scripture. They didn’t know what was inside. I put it in the middle on the table and said<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

– Listen gentlemen, I have a suitcase here, it’s a suitcase that is quite antique, you don’t know what’s inside.  How about telling me what you would need? What could be in this suitcase?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A young man who was sitting in a wheelchair at the end of the room called out loudly – Then I’ ll ask for health.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Someone else called out<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

– Then I’ ll ask for health too, but for him – and pointed his finger again at the man, but you know what? The man who asked for health for the other person was himself on crutches.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Someone exclaims – I’ll ask for freedom. And another added in a moment – And I want food.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A simple scene, but I will remember it as moving. Someone asked for health for someone else, I later opened the suitcase and we shared what was inside our hearts with Mary and ate a piece of cake each. Jesus be glorified, for those who think of others, and for the fact that we were able to meet and share. And what do you need yourself? For others?  Will you share?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
