We sit on a white leather couch that has just arrived, donated from one house to another. We sit together with people who have spent the night on the street before and talk. There’s Mary, we’ve brought cake, we’re brewing coffee, and they’re telling us what ends up in the dumpster. A woman says: „Do you know how many crosses from apartments end up in the garbage? What kind of paintings? Aren’t people afraid to throw that away? How can they? You know, we have this idea, we’ll probably start collecting these crosses. It seems like a good idea”. they go through the trash every day. If they find one, they take it. „What do we do with it?  God will tell us”. They are eager and very moved that such things end up in the garbage.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Our Lady of the Rubbish Heap, Jesus battered and beaten dumped on the rubbish heap.  It’s not just a statue, it’s not just a painting, it’s not just a cross, but something must have changed in that house that threw it away, in those people. It’s a foreboding conversation when we sit on that white couch and talk to people who make their living collecting trash and discarded crosses. May Jesus be glorified in this conversation and in these people who notice these crosses, these images. <\/h4>\n\n\n\n
